The Hotel Hoppa is bad for the image of the hotels (those tourists mentioned above initially blamed their hotel for not running a free shuttle until I explained they're not allowed to), it's particularly bad for those hotels on the route of the H56 which has more stops than any other. They didn't think they'd need any British currency for an overnight in the hotel (same as I often didn't have Swiss Francs when overnighting in ZRX when flying LX), so they were surprised when first of all they needed to pay for the hotel shuttle and secondly the driver was unable to accept credit cards or euros/dollars on a bus that has to serve a lot of people whose final destination is not the UK.Įven TFL buses accept contactless credit cards (incl Amex) now in addition to cash and Oyster. They were transiting LHR going to 'Yurp' (which I believe uses Euros). I also encountered some American tourists who asked me about tickets (as they seen me with one in my hand - its slightly cheaper to buy at the National Express office in the terminal than it is to buy on board). Lesson learned: when there's no TFL service from your terminal head to the central bus station and go from there. As T4 is so out of the way it really should have its own shuttle service. The route of the H56 is made worse by adding the pointless stop at the Sofitel and going to T4. If the service was good most people would be willing to put up with paying for a hotel shuttle if the service is fairly quick and makes at most a couple of stops. Add to that the usual amount of people not familiar with the Hoppa and asking the driver multiple questions the journey took over 50 minutes! Quicker to get the HEX into Paddington and stay there, possibly almost as quick to get to Gatwick! Those staying at the Premier Inn had an even longer journey. The first stop after T5 was the Sofitel! Is this some plan to rip off tourists? The bus then went to T4, Holiday Inn Ariel and Ibis before reaching the DoubleTree. This particular service must be the worst of all the Hoppa services. Staying at the DoubleTree (don't normally use it when coming from T5 and when in T3 I tend to get a TFL bus) and as there's no direct TFL bus from T5 to this hotel I thought I might as well get the Hoppa (H56).
